Frequently Asked Questions ABOUT MAEAP

Please reach us at algercd@macd.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

MAEAP is a non-regulatory program and 100% Confidential. We will work together to come up with an economical and practical solution to address any environmental risks.

There are 4 steps to getting MAEAP Verified are:

  1. Education (Phase 1) – Attend a workshop/Field Day with Phase 1 Credit or Online Educational Learning from the MAEAP webpage.
  2. Farm Visit & Recommendations – Invite your local MAEAP technician out to tour your place. VISITS ARE COMPLETELY FREE.
  3. Implement – Implement the action plan that you and your technician developed and do the work at your own pace.
  4. Recognition – MAEAP verification.  A verifier for the MDARD will visit your place and ensure the recommended practices are in place and address any environmental risks. When the work is done, you will be given a sign to place on your farm or land and send you a certificate in recognition of your accomplishment of you place being verified in MAEAP.

Ready to make an appointment? Contact Holly today!

The technician will ask you to give them a tour of your farm or property, and they will ask questions about your management activities. The focal topics a technician will discuss during a visit are:

  1. Farmstead Area Management: water well conditions, fertilizer/pesticide storage and handling, fuel storage, and manure storage
  2. Cropping Management: nutrient, pest, irrigation, and pasture management practices
  3. Livestock Management: manure storage and handling, milking center waste (dairies only), silage storage, odor management, animal mortality management and emergency planning
  4. Forest, Wetland & Habitat Management - Review your Land Management Plan, look at any forested and non-forested management activities, food plot management, and timber harvest management.

Need to ask a specific question about your farm or property? Ask Holly, your MAEAP Technician

All the questions the technician will ask you are based on Michigan's Right to Farm Generally Accepted Management Practices, Michigan’s Right to Forest Generally Accepted Forest Management Practices, and some state and federal regulations.

MAEAP verification offers benefits, including demonstrating environmental stewardship, ensuring regulatory compliance, enhancing market access and consumer confidence, improving risk management and farm viability, and providing access to educational and technical assistance.
